It took me two runs and far too many hours in Destiny 2's version of King's Fall over the last three days, but it was worth it because I got the Touch of Malice. All I need now is the catalyst.
Netflix dropped the last episode for The Sandman at midnight. It's a two, part episode, the first being the one off, "A Dream of a Thousand Cats" and the second being "Calliope".
A Dream was honestly better than I could have expected. The animation style really suited the story, and I just about died when I heard Neil Gaiman's voice coming from the dead crow. It's always been one of my favorite stories from The Sandman series. Beautiful, sad, haunting...and kitties. Calliope was also done extremely well. A captured muse, held prisoner to two authors, who calls upon Dream, her former husband, father to her child, to help free her. It's a great story. And, it fleshes out Dream a little more. Yes, it's Calliope's story, but it goes into some of Dream's background as well. The episode was a great way to tie up the first season.
Now all Netflix needs to do is announce that they are going to renew The Sandman for a second season. I would love to see the story play out just as beautifully as "Preludes and Nocturnes" and "The Dollhouse" did. And, if they continue the series, I can only hope they also do more of the one off stories. I would love to see the stories from "Endless Nights" done. Especially Dream's story. It's one of my favorites.
It's just a bonus episode. Nothing that officially ties into the story that was in season 1. But, it made me happy to see that they're taking the source material seriously, I never expected them to do Calliope or A Dream of a Thousand Cats.

Only I'm a wild sea,
Lonely 'til you leave me,
Speeding down a silent shore,
Something tells me I've been here before,
By heart, I know this dark, oh,
Shapes turn to black,
I'd give you back,
Only I'm a wild sea,
Lonely til you hold me,
Love me like you do,
I know that I'm hard work,
You know I've been so hurt,
Love me like you do,
Yeah, I know you're easy-going
Just to please me,
Love me like you do,
You know I'm a wild sea
Lonely til you hold me,
Love me like you do.
Speeding down a silent shore,
Something tells me we've been here before
Where we're going I don't wanna see,
Everyday you slip away from me,
I'd give you back, I'd give you that.
Only I'm a wild sea,
Lonely til you hold me,
Love me like you do,
I know that I'm hard work,
You know I've been so hurt,
Love me like you do,
Yeah, I know you're easy-going
Just to please me,
Love me like you do,
You know I'm a wild sea
Lonely til you hold me,
Love me like you do.
You, are my emblem of gold
You, won't remember you told me,
You, have a right not to know,
How good it feels when you hold me,
Ships turning back,
They know I'm a wild sea,
I'll be lonely til you leave me,
Only I'm a wild sea,
Lonely til you hold me,
Love me like you do,
I know that I'm hard work,
You know I've been so hurt,
Love me like you do,
Yeah, I know you're easy-going
Just to please me,
Love me like you do,
You know I'm a wild sea
Lonely til you hold me,
Love me like you do.
Thank you for all the birthday messages across all three of my accounts. Sorry I haven't replied to each of you individually, but I figured a mass thank you was better than no response at all. I really do appricate the messages, though.
I've been waiting years and years for a real adaptation of Neil Gaiman's The Sandman to be made. And I also dreaded it because the graphic novel series has always seemed like it would be impossible to bring to the screen. At least, to be done well. But then Netflix announced that they were going to give it a go, and better yet, that they were bringing on Neil to work with them to bring his story to life. And, I have to say, I'm in love with the show. Granted, it's not a perfect adaptation, they've made changes, of course, but nothing that takes away from story as a whole. Gwendoline Christie makes a wonderful Lucifer and Tom Sturridge is a near perfect Dream.
I really enjoyed it. I binged the entire series today. I thought it had a sort of American Gods feeling about it. and yes omg She played an amazing Lucifer.
It's leagues better than American Gods. That Starz adaptation of my all-time favorite novel broke my heart. The Sandman, though, it's wonderful, truly wonderful. I need more, and I need it now.
